imovie

I used imovie for this project and it took me quite a while to figure out the audio portion. Uploading pictures and doing voice over were actually very easy. One of the problems I encountered was trying to publish this video on youtube; even though I purchased this music, it was still considered copy right infringement, the solution was to put it directly into my blog. I start the video with a quick overview of some slides from the thirties. I added some music to make the effect a little more realistic. In terms of education I thought using imovie would be a cool way to get students exited about history. It would be great to publish short videos to the class website with of some of the periods of history you as a teacher are going to cover. With slides available on the Internet and music available from itunes, it becomes a relatively easy process, I warn you that it is time consuming. I learned to use imovie mostly from tutorials made my preteens on youtube. One of the other issues with imovie is that the versions become outdated quickly so you can't get the new features from imovie 09 if you are currently using 08 ect. The other down fall is that it is not feasible for students as most students and schools do not have Mac's, though I know there is a similar version of imovie on PCs. Imovie is a lot of fun for personal use as well. I added some fun family photos on the end of movie as well as some icons from my past. If you get the chance to use imovie I would encourage you to think about using it in the classroom, as I think students would really benefit from it.
